技術的詳細
TIFFはIFD（Image File Directory）チェーンで複数画像を保存するタグベース構造を使用します。圧縮オプション：なし、LZW、DEFLATE、JPEG、CCITT（FAX用）。チャンネルあたり8/16/32ビットをサポート。CMYK、Lab、マルチチャンネルの色空間をサポートします。GeoTIFFはジオリファレンスメタデータを追加します。
歴史
Aldus Corporation（後にAdobeが買収）は1986年にスキャナーメーカー向けの統一フォーマットとしてTIFFを開発しました。TIFF 6.0（1992年）が現在の仕様です。BigTIFF拡張により4GBを超えるファイルサイズをサポートしています。
